Marley
Many of you may remember Marley, who originally came to CGRR in April of 2023, with another Golden named Millie. Marley is one of the largest Goldens we have ever received.... weighing in at 133 pounds! Both dogs had been outside dogs, keeping each other company.
Shortly after we posted Marley on the website, we were contacted by a previous adopter who was interested in fostering Marley, to help her lose some weight. Sue had adopted from us before and the previous dog she had was overweight, and she turned that dog into a healthy, fit girl. She told me, " I can help this girl lose weight."
As Marley had never been in the house, she had no concept of boundaries. Marley had a Golden buddy, Riley, to help show her the ropes. Sue put Marley on a strict diet, walked her every day and provided her with structure and a good routine. Marley does not like being left alone, she has some pretty extreme separation anxiety. It did help that she was with another dog, but she is a Houdini, and would still sometimes get anxious.
Sue did an amazing job with Marley, and she was attached, so she adopted her last February. Marley had come a long way, and had settled into a pretty good routine.
Marley is very reactive to outside stimuli, and on Halloween, with the excitement of kids at the door, Marley bolted out, and went down the street to see what was going on. Sue is not really sure what happened, but Marley ran into her, knocking her down and Sue broke her hip.
We brought Marley here, as Sue was in the hospital. Unfortunately, she had a long recovery ahead, and she had to make the painful decision to rehome Marley.
Marley is down to 82lbs and looks wonderful! It is amazing to think that she has lost 50 pounds! She is 4 years old now and this girl has a Big personality! She has a funny, mischievous side, and sometimes acts like the class clown. She loves to be petted, and can be a hog for human attention sometimes. She is good with other dogs, but can be dominant at times. She will be a fun dog, who needs a home with a dog savvy person, and one who will keep her active. She would do better in a home where someone is around most of the time. She loves everyone, but we feel she would be too much for young children, as she can be a bull dozer! Steve would be happy to do some in home training with her new people, so they can continue working with her. If you think you may be interested, please email your application to utgoldentails@cs.com
