This big boy is 8 years old, and has had a rough and lonely year. One of his owners had a stroke about a year ago, and Cal was relocated to a pen in the garage. We got the impression that the owners were hoping things would get better, and they did not. A friend and neighbor had been helping the family, and she got to know Cal. She would take Cal for walks a couple times a week, and other than someone putting food in his pen, that was the only attention he got for the past year. Cal would sit in his kennel and watch the door that went into the house – he knew someone would come back through that door and get him. The friend that had been helping out, told the family about CGRR and it was decided that he should have a better home. Cal is housetrained, good with other dogs, we were told he is okay with cats. He loves all people and craves attention right now. He loves to get out for walks, and he needs someone who will provide him with regular exercise, as he is overweight. This big boy is 110 pounds, and is a love sponge – but Cal needs someone who will also show him there are rules and boundaries. He is a sweet, sweet boy who just needs the love and security of a good home.

Looking for that well mannered pooch, who has good house manners, walks nicely on lead, gets along with other dogs, cats….and is just a nice dog? We have just the dog for you! Rocky is a very sweet 7 year old boy, looking for his forever home. Rocky came to CGRR from an owner who was moving and could not take him. Rocky is housetrained, good with dogs, cats, kids. Rocky loves going for walks and he is great on leash. He is very much used to being a house dog, and being outside alone for long periods of time is not his favorite thing. True to the Golden’s nature, Rocky just wants to be with his people. This boy will make a wonderful addition to your home.

We at CGRR feel it is very important that each dog we rescue is tested for Heartworm. Then we administer the preventive medication to keep these sweethearts free from this terrible parasite. Unfortunately, Heartgard and Interceptor can get a little pricey.

We are looking for donations of Heartgard and Interceptor (doses for dogs 50-100 pounds). Please consider purchasing an extra box while picking some up for your furry friend or you can contact Redwood Veterinary Hospital at 801-966-3974 and purchase a box or two, or even just a pill or two, over the phone. Ask them to set aside your donation for CGRR and we will pick it up the next time we are in. You can also ask your veterinary clinic to donate preventive medication that is getting close to its expiration date. We go through it pretty quickly and can use product that would normally be discarded.

Donations can be sent to: PO Box 1317, West Jordan, Utah 84084 or contact us at utgoldentails@cs.com to arrange for a drop-off.

This big handsome senior boy is 12 years old, and has been with one owner his whole life – until recently. Brinkley lived outside in a fenced yard with another Golden – a female that was more of a hunting dog. There were a couple of smaller dogs that lived inside. Brinkley was a bit excitable around the small dogs, but once he got to know them he was fine. He has always been good with large dogs. Over the past 3-4 years, there were a few things that happened, and the owners decided that Brinkley had to go. One time the owners came home and found a dead racoon in the yard. There was another time that they came home and Brinkley was standing over a dead cat, whining. As there were two dogs, no one knew for sure who the culprit was, but for some reason, it was Brinkley that got the boot. Brinkley had brought his owners dead birds (I think most of us have had that fun experience!) How can these dogs learn what is acceptable behavior, when no one teaches them? This boy was an outside, backyard dog and he may have learned some things from the other Golden. As we all know, these dogs will pick up on the energy/behavior of the other one.

Brinkley is a big boy – about 98 pounds. He is very sweet and has done great with the dogs here. He loves toys – he will always pick up a ball and carry it around, taking it into his bed. He hangs out with Betty, and many times we have caught those two trying to wrestle!

Brinkley has some arthritis in his back, but he actually has a good energy level. We did a full blood panel on him and his bloodwork looks great. We are hoping to find a foster home for Brinkley – one where he can know the joy of being an inside dog. We do think it would be better if Brinkley was in a home with no cats, or small dogs - just to be safe. He does get excited, and he does not realize how big he is. He craves the human touch and he wants to please. This boy will not ask for much – and he still has lots of love to give back.

This handsome boy was rescued from a shelter, and we think he is about 3-4yrs old. Levi is a mix - he may have some spaniel in him, as he has a freckled nose and a bob tail. Levi is a quiet, sweet boy and we wonder if he has not been around other dogs much. He has been fine with them, but he does not interact much – it’s like he does not know what to do. Levi would benefit from some basic obedience training, and we would love to see him get a home where he gets to go for lots of walks……and maybe a doggie buddy to show him how to be a dog. He needs work on the leash, but he will learn quickly. Levi is looking for his person to bond with – could that be you?

Jess is a wonderful 9 year old Gordon Setter girl. Her owners lost a portion of their fence in a windstorm, and they did not want to deal with not being able to let her out back. This girl is a gem - she has the cutest personality. Jess is wonderful with other dogs – not sure about cats, she is housetrained, good with all people. She loves to play, but she is a tease! She will fetch a ball, then trot by you – just out of reach – and “talk” to you! It’s like she is saying “look what I have!” She “talks” to us every day -she is such a happy girl. Many of you that follow our website know that Gordons are our other love. Jess does need work on the leash, but she is very smart and will respond to training. She knows several commands and is eager to please. Gordons are not the best off leash dogs, as they tend to follow their nose. Her previous owner did tell us she would bolt. She loves to get out and explore, so she would love to be in a home that will get her out for regular walks. Can you give this girl the forever home she needs?

3/2/12-UPDATE: We have been very fortunate to have a couple of new foster homes, and Dakota is lucky enough to be in one of them! Marry Stewart actually came to visit CGRR and bring some things for the dogs. When she met Dakota, she was very taken with her, and wanted to help…….so Marry and her family are providing a wonderful, loving home for this sweet old girl. Dakota has been the perfect angel – she is very good in the house, and she eats up all the lovin’ she can get! Our sincere thanks to Marry and her family for opening their home and hearts to Dakota.

What a sweet face on this girl – the face of an angel – a very neglected angel. Dakota was found wandering the streets, and some nice folks took her home, thinking they would find her owner. They took fliers to shelters, posted ads in the newspaper and on the internet – no one came forward. They wanted to keep Dakota, but realized their home was not the best for her. Dakota is weak in her hind end and she has a hard time with stairs, as well as hardwood floors – both of which were in her current home. She is a big love sponge! This girl just wants the human touch – and food! We think Dakota is about 11-12 years old. We ran a full blood panel on her, and things were not good. Dakota had extremely low thyroid, and her albumen levels were very low…………and she has Heartworm. Because of her age, and poor health, we feel that the heartworm treatment would be too much for Dakota. We are treating her conservatively, with Doxycycline and Heartgard. The Doxy will make the female heartworms impotent, and the Heartgard will eventually kill off the heartworms – but it is a slow process. We are giving her some Rimadyl and joint pills for her hind end, and the Rimadyl has helped her. We would love to find a kind soul out there, that can take Dakota in and give her a loving home for however long she has left. She is such a sweet girl, who will win your heart over when you meet her. She will gaze into your eyes, as if asking if you can take her home. CGRR will pay for her meds and food. This girl will not ask for much – a safe, loving home would be wonderful.

2/28/12- UPDATE: Miss Esther scored big time! She has been in a foster home for about a month, and she is doing great! She had some dental work done, as well as a deep ear cleaning, and several lumps removed that were bothering her. Her foster Mom has Esther on a raw food diet and Esther is actually starting to get some muscle back in her hind end! Because of the wonderful job Karen is doing with Esther’s ears, she has gained some of her hearing back. We cannot thank Karen Ely enough for all she is doing for this sweet girl!

This sweet old girl was rescued from a shelter and it is so sad to think of her wandering around, because she cannot hear. Esther is about 11 years old and deaf, more than likely due to neglect of her ears. They were horrible when we got her and it took a couple of weeks just to get them to where she looked somewhat comfortable. Esther is one big sweetheart – she just wants the human touch. She has some arthritis in her ankles, so she would do better in a one level home. Esther enjoys being with other dogs and she LOVES her big comfy dog bed! We would love to find a foster home for Esther, as she deserves some TLC. She learned our daily routine quickly, so she is a smart girl. Esther will not ask for much – she just wants to be with people who love her. Can you find room in your heart/home to perhaps foster this girl?
